About the Silk Grey Finish

Silk Grey is the finish that carries width best. White at three metres can read as a blank wall; a dark colour at three metres defines the room. Silk Grey does neither – it has enough tone to look like a considered choice rather than a default, and enough restraint that a wardrobe filling an entire wall still recedes. If you want the storage without the wardrobe becoming the subject of the room, this is the one.

The colour is a soft light grey with a gentle warmth, not the cold blue-tinged grey that dated so quickly in the last decade. That matters more at this size: a cool grey across three metres can make a bedroom feel harder than intended, whereas this stays comfortable alongside warm woods, painted furniture, chrome or brass equally.

It is also the finish that shows the door design most clearly. Each sliding door divides into three horizontal panels – a tall centre panel with a shorter one above and below – and the shadow lines between them register more visibly on a mid tone than on white or black. Across three doors that gives a wide front a quiet, deliberate rhythm.

Handles are a genuine choice rather than a fixed fitting. Aluminium is the standard option and the most affordable, sitting closest in tone to the doors for the most seamless result. Chrome is brighter and more reflective, adding three sharper accents across the front. Black is the boldest, turning the handles into graphic vertical divisions and taking a soft colour in a more contemporary direction. Chrome and black are priced the same.

Interior and Construction

Contido sits in Rauch Orange Plus, and the difference between this and a standard sliding wardrobe is almost entirely in what comes as standard rather than what you pay extra for. Contido includes the premium interior package in the price: a set of two sliding door dampers, an interior drawer, and a wardrobe interior division – three upgrades most manufacturers charge separately for, and the three most people end up wanting.

The dampers are the one you notice daily. Sliding doors without them can be pushed shut hard and land with a bang; a damped door draws itself closed over the last few centimetres and settles quietly. With three doors in daily use, the difference compounds.

The interior drawer and the division do the organisational work. A drawer inside a wardrobe keeps small items contained rather than piled on a shelf, and the vertical division splits a compartment so shorter garments can hang above shelving instead of wasting the full drop. Together they are the reason a Contido wardrobe usually removes the need for a separate chest of drawers.

The three compartments each carry their own shelves and rail, which is what makes a wardrobe this wide usable rather than simply large. Two people sharing can take one each, with the third given over to bedding, luggage or out-of-season clothing – and none of the three is a compromise.

A Passepartout frame is available as an optional extra, with or without integrated lighting – a surround fitted across the top and both sides of the wardrobe, closing the gap to the ceiling and walls to give a built-in appearance. On a wardrobe filling most of one wall, that is the detail that turns freestanding furniture into fitted storage.

Contido is 100% Made in Germany and carries both the Blue Angel and the Golden M – Blue Angel being an independently verified low-emission certification, which is worth having on a piece of furniture this size in a room you sleep in. Rauch Orange Plus is the brand's durable, high-specification line, and the wardrobe is backed by a 10-year manufacturer guarantee.

If three metres is more than the wall will take, Contido is also produced as a 2 door sliding wardrobe in 160cm, 180cm and 200cm widths. The range is also made in White, Champagne and Black, or with silk grey glass fronts against a black carcase for a two-tone finish.

FAQs

Is Silk Grey warm or cool in tone?
It sits on the warmer side of neutral – a soft light grey rather than a cold, blue-tinged one. Across three metres that matters, since a cool grey at this width can make a bedroom feel harder than intended.

Will a wardrobe this wide dominate the room?
Less in silk grey than in any other finish. White at this size can read as a blank wall and a dark colour defines the room; silk grey has enough tone to look deliberate while still receding. At 68cm deep the footprint is no greater than a smaller wardrobe – only the width changes.

Which width should I choose?
240cm gives three compartments of 80cm, 270cm gives 90cm, and 300cm gives 100cm – so the wider models give more space per section rather than extra sections. Measure the full run of wall before ordering, including skirting boards, radiators and any point where the wall is not perfectly square.

Which handle should I choose?
Aluminium sits closest in tone to the doors and gives the most seamless result. Chrome is brighter, adding three sharper accents across the front. Black is the boldest, taking a soft colour in a more contemporary direction. Chrome and black are priced the same.

What is included in the premium interior?
Three items that most manufacturers charge extra for, included as standard: a set of two sliding door dampers, an interior drawer, and a wardrobe interior division. They come with the wardrobe at every width.

What are the dimensions?
Height 223cm, depth 68cm including the doors, with 56cm usable inside. Width is your choice of 240cm, 270cm or 300cm. Check your ceiling height before ordering and allow room above for the wardrobe to be raised into position during assembly.

What is a Passepartout frame?
An optional surround fitted across the top and both sides of the wardrobe. It closes the gap to the ceiling and walls, giving a built-in, fitted appearance rather than a freestanding one – which on a wardrobe this wide is the detail that turns freestanding furniture into fitted storage. Available with or without integrated lighting, at additional cost.

What is Rauch Orange Plus?
Rauch's durable, high-specification line – furniture built for long service in a timeless design, with a wide range of models and features. Contido sits within it, which is why the premium interior comes as standard rather than as a paid upgrade.

What delivery options are available?
Free delivery is included. Our professional assembly service is available at additional cost, where our fitters build the wardrobe in your chosen room. On a wardrobe of this size it is worth considering.

Is it available in a smaller size?
Yes. Contido is also produced as a 2 door sliding wardrobe in 160cm, 180cm and 200cm widths.

Is it available in other colours?
Yes. The range is also made in White, Champagne and Black, or as a two-tone wardrobe with silk grey glass fronts and a black carcase.

Can I cancel or change my order?
No. This wardrobe is made to order by Rauch to your selected specification, including width and handle finish, so once the order has been processed it cannot be cancelled or amended. Please check your measurements and selected options carefully before ordering.

What guarantee does it come with?
Rauch provide a 10-Year Manufacturer Guarantee, subject to their warranty terms.

Free Assembly

Selected wardrobes include professional delivery and assembly in your room of choice at no additional charge.

Assembly Available at Cost

On eligible wardrobes, you can select Professional Delivery & Assembly directly from the product page. Assembly prices start from £79 and vary depending on the size of the wardrobe.

How Professional Assembly Works

Step 1

Choose Your Wardrobe

Browse our wardrobe collections and choose the size, finish and configuration that works for your bedroom.

Step 2

Select Your Delivery Service

Where available, select Professional Delivery & Assembly from the delivery options shown directly on the product page.

Step 3

Prepare the Room

Make sure the room and access route are clear and that sufficient floor and ceiling space is available for safe assembly.

Step 4

We Take Care of the Rest

Our specialist team will deliver, assemble, position and check your wardrobe before completing the handover.

Preparing Your Room for Assembly

Large wardrobes normally need to be assembled flat before being carefully raised into their final position. Preparing the room before the delivery team arrives is therefore essential.

  • Ensure the room has sufficient clear floor space for the wardrobe to be assembled lying flat.
  • Allow approximately 20cm of clearance around the wardrobe footprint where possible.
  • Allow approximately 15–20cm of ceiling clearance above the finished height of the wardrobe.
  • Ensure access routes, doorways, hallways and stairs are clear and suitable for the wardrobe components to be safely carried into the room.
  • Remove furniture and other items that may obstruct the assembly area.
  • Consider radiators, light fittings, low ceilings, sloping ceilings and other permanent obstructions that could prevent safe assembly.
  • Our wardrobes are freestanding and the assembly team may require access around the furniture during installation.
Important: If our assembly team arrives and the room or access route is not suitable for safe delivery and assembly, they may be unable to complete the service. The assembly charge may still apply where the service cannot be completed because sufficient access or assembly space has not been provided.

What Happens If Damage Occurs During Assembly?

When you choose our Professional Delivery & Assembly service, the installation is carried out by our specialist assembly team.

If accidental damage occurs to your wardrobe during assembly, the assemblers will report the damage to us so that we can arrange the appropriate replacement part.

We normally aim to order the replacement part within approximately 48 hours of receiving the relevant information from the assembly team.

Please be aware that many of our wardrobe parts are manufactured and supplied from Germany. Replacement components may therefore take a similar lead time to the original order before they arrive with us and can be arranged for fitting.

This is one of the key benefits of selecting professional assembly: if accidental damage occurs during installation by our team, we take responsibility for resolving the issue.

Assembly by the Customer

If your wardrobe is supplied as Delivery Only, it will normally arrive flat-packed with the components and assembly instructions required to build the furniture.

Wardrobe assembly clearance guide showing approximately 20cm working space around the wardrobe

Large wardrobes normally need to be assembled flat before being carefully raised into their final position. We strongly recommend checking all components before beginning assembly and making sure there is sufficient room to work safely around the wardrobe.

  • Check all packs before beginning assembly.
  • Confirm that all required components are present.
  • Check that no components appear damaged before assembly begins.
  • Use at least two people for safe assembly and lifting.
  • Allow approximately 20cm of working clearance around the wardrobe where possible.
  • Ensure there is enough clear floor space to assemble the wardrobe flat.
  • Check the available ceiling height before lifting the wardrobe upright.
Please note: Damage caused during customer self-assembly is not treated in the same way as accidental damage caused while our professional team is carrying out the assembly service.

Delivery Times for Professional Assembly

Orders with Professional Delivery & Assembly are delivered by a specialist assembly team. This can mean the delivery time is slightly longer than the standard delivery estimate shown for delivery-only orders.

Please allow approximately 6–8 weeks for orders requiring Professional Delivery & Assembly.

Assembly Within 40 Miles of BB9

If you are located within approximately 40 miles of our BB9 postcode, we may be able to provide an additional assembly service for selected wardrobes that would otherwise be supplied as Delivery Only.

Availability and pricing for this local service should be confirmed with our team before delivery.
