A Full Wardrobe in One Metre
At 100cm wide this is the smallest Cairns, and the drawers are what make it work. A metre of wardrobe gives you one compartment — enough hanging space for a reasonable amount, but not enough on its own to serve a bedroom. Adding two drawers underneath turns it into a complete solution: hanging space above, folded storage below, in the footprint of a small double wardrobe.
That matters in rooms where nothing else fits. A box room, a single bedroom, a loft conversion with a sloping ceiling on one side, a spare room that also has to store things. In all of those a standard wardrobe plus a chest of drawers is simply too much furniture — this does both jobs against one metre of wall.
It also works as a second wardrobe in a larger room, sitting alongside one of the wider Cairns models where you need extra drawer storage without another full chest.
Behind the doors, a single compartment carries two adjustable wooden shelves and a metal hanging rail. Two shelves is generous at this width, and because they adjust you can set the balance yourself — raise them both for full-length coats, or drop them to add folded storage above the drawers.
The Mirror Option
Mirror panels are available on both doors, inset into the upper section rather than running the full height. It is a deliberate choice and the right one for a narrow wardrobe: a full-height mirror on a one-metre front would dominate the piece entirely, whereas tall inset panels give you a usable mirror while the wardrobe still reads as furniture.
On a small wardrobe the mirror earns its place twice over, since it removes the need for a separate mirror in a room that by definition has no space for one.
Five Colours, Including Sage Green
Cairns comes in five finishes, and on a wardrobe this size you can be bolder than you might be at three metres — a strong colour on one metre of wall is an accent rather than a statement.
Sage Green is a soft, muted green with grey in it, closer to a heritage paint colour than anything you would normally find on a German wardrobe. At this width it is genuinely charming rather than overwhelming, and it is the colour most likely to make a small room feel considered rather than merely practical.
Graphite is a deep near-black, and at one metre it works in rooms where a larger dark wardrobe would not — the footprint is small enough that the darkness reads as a deliberate accent.
White is the brightest and best for the smallest rooms. Pebble Grey is a warm mid grey, soft and easy to live with. Champagne is a pale, faintly golden neutral, warmer than grey and softer than white.
The carcase matches the doors on all five.
Cornice or Passepartout – What's the Difference?
Cairns comes with a cornice as standard, and you can swap it for a Passepartout frame instead.
A cornice is a decorative moulded top section fitted above the wardrobe. It finishes the unit off and gives a more traditional, furnished appearance. The wardrobe still stands freestanding with a gap above and down each side.
A Passepartout frame surrounds the wardrobe across the top and down both sides, closing the gap between the furniture and the room, so the wardrobe reads as built in rather than freestanding. On a narrow wardrobe tucked into an alcove, that framed look can be particularly effective — it makes a small unit look intentional rather than squeezed in.
The practical difference is the width. With the cornice the wardrobe is 100cm wide and 220cm high. With the Passepartout frame it is 106cm wide and 220cm high — the frame adds 3cm to each side. On a wardrobe chosen precisely because space is tight, check that 6cm carefully before selecting it.
Doors, Drawers and Handles
Both doors have soft-close cushioned hinges and open to 95°, wider than the usual 90° — enough that the door clears the opening completely. On a narrow wardrobe that matters more than on a wide one, since there is less room to work around a partly open door.
Handles are horizontal metal bars in a choice of Silver or Slate, used on both the doors and the drawer fronts so the whole front reads consistently. Silver is the quieter option on the paler finishes; Slate is darker and more contemporary, and works particularly well on Sage Green and Graphite.
