About the Oak and Mirror Front
Real wood and mirror is the most effective pairing in the Malva range, and the one that solves the most problems at once. One entire sliding door is faced in real oak veneer – Malva is the only Rauch collection that uses actual timber rather than a wood-effect print – and the other is a full-height mirror. On a 271cm model that gives you around 135cm of continuous oak grain beside 135cm of reflection.
Neither material works as well alone. A full mirrored front is cold and reads as a fitting rather than furniture. A full wood front is warm but gives nothing back to the room. Together the oak supplies texture and warmth while the mirror returns the light, doubles the apparent depth of the space and removes the need for a freestanding mirror. It is the configuration to choose if the bedroom is on the smaller side but you still want the wardrobe to have character.
The scale of the veneer is what makes it work. A printed foil repeats – look along a large panel and the same knots and figuring recur at regular intervals. Real veneer does not: the grain runs the length of the door as it grew, with the tonal variation of timber. Set directly against a mirror, which is the flattest and most uniform surface in any room, that irregularity is exactly what registers.
Because the doors slide, the composition changes as you use the wardrobe – the oak moves across the front, the reflection reconfigures. It is more interesting to live with than a fixed design.
Three Carcase Colours
The doors are the same on all three; what changes is the carcase, the visible edges and the handle strips, which are finished to match.
Artisan Oak is the most cohesive. A wood-effect carcase around a real oak door means the wardrobe reads as a single timber piece with a mirror set into it, and the frame carries the warmth right through to the edges. It is the option for a room built around natural materials.
Champagne is the softest. A pale, faintly golden frame sits in the same warm family as the oak without matching it, giving a gentle two-tone that lifts the wardrobe slightly without introducing contrast.
Metallic Grey is the boldest. A deep, near-black frame around warm oak and bright mirror is a strong three-way composition – the dark edges recede and push both the timber and the reflection forward. It is the most contemporary of the three.
One detail to know before ordering: the base plinth is always supplied in Silk Grey, whichever carcase you choose. On the Metallic Grey option that band is barely noticeable; against Champagne or Artisan Oak it is visible at floor level. It is a deliberate design decision by Rauch rather than an omission.
Sizes and Interior
Three widths are offered, all with two sliding doors. 181cm divides into two compartments of 90cm – the standard proportion and the right choice for a normal double bedroom. 226cm keeps two compartments but opens them to 112.5cm each, wide enough that a full season's coats sits in one section without crowding. 271cm divides into three compartments of 90cm behind the two doors, which suits two people sharing better than two very wide sections would.
Every compartment has a storage shelf and a hanging rail, both adjustable in height. Further interior accessories are available from the Rauch range if you want to build it out.
We would strongly recommend adding soft close on this version in particular. A mirrored door is heavier than a panel one, and stopping it landing hard is worth having for the sake of the mirror as much as the noise – it also keeps the doors running true over years rather than gradually dropping out of alignment.
