About the Oak Veneer Panel
Malva is the only Rauch collection that uses real oak veneer rather than a wood-effect print, and that single fact is the reason to choose it. Every other wood-look wardrobe in our range – including some very good ones – uses a decor foil that reproduces grain photographically. This is actual timber: a thin layer of real oak bonded to the panel, with genuine grain, genuine texture, and the tonal variation that only comes from wood that grew.
You notice it in two ways. Under raking light the surface has depth rather than a flat printed sheen, and up close the grain has texture you can feel. On a wardrobe front where everything else is a smooth painted panel, that contrast in material – not just colour – is what makes the design work.
The placement is deliberate. Each door divides into four horizontal panels, with the oak set as the third one down, just below the midpoint. It is not centred and not symmetrical, and that is the point: a band low on the door draws the eye across the width of the wardrobe rather than up it, and running unbroken across both doors it reads as a single horizontal line through the whole piece. Slide the doors and the line breaks and reforms.
Metallic Grey is a deep graphite rather than a mid grey – considerably closer to black – and it is the right ground for the oak. A pale surround would compete with the wood; a dark one throws the warm grain forward and makes the veneer the only warm element on the front. It is the version to choose if you want the oak to be a statement rather than a detail.
The handles are finished in the carcase colour, so they sit quietly and leave the oak panel as the only interruption to the front. On the matching bedroom furniture the handles are oak, picking up the veneer instead – a nice piece of consistency if you are buying the pieces together.
One detail to know before ordering: the base plinth is always supplied in Silk Grey. Beneath a metallic grey door that lighter band is visible at floor level – a deliberate design decision by Rauch rather than an omission.
Sizes and Interior
Three widths are offered, all with two sliding doors. 181cm divides into two compartments of 90cm – the standard proportion and the right choice for a normal double bedroom. 226cm keeps two compartments but opens them to 112.5cm each, which is unusually generous: wide enough that a full season's coats sits in one section without crowding. 271cm divides into three compartments of 90cm behind the two doors, which suits two people sharing better than two very wide sections would.
Every compartment has a storage shelf and a hanging rail, both adjustable in height, so the balance between hanging and folded storage is yours to set. Further interior accessories are available from the Rauch range if you want to build it out.
We would recommend adding soft close to the sliding doors. It stops a door being pushed shut hard and landing with a bang, drawing it closed quietly over the last few centimetres instead – and beyond the feel of it, taking that impact out of daily use is what keeps sliding doors running true over years rather than gradually dropping out of alignment.
Malva is 100% Made in Germany and carries both the Blue Angel and the Golden M – Blue Angel being an independently verified low-emission certification, which is worth having on a large piece of furniture in a room you sleep in. It is backed by a 10-year manufacturer guarantee.
The same wardrobe is also produced in Champagne. Malva is additionally made in two further styles: one with a full oak veneer door alongside a colour door, and one with a full oak veneer door alongside a mirrored door.
Matching bedroom furniture is available from the collection: a 3 drawer bedside table, a 4 drawer chest in narrow or wide, and a 5 drawer chest in narrow or wide with two smaller drawers above three larger ones. All carry oak handles.

FAQs
Is the oak panel real wood?
Yes. Malva is the only Rauch collection that uses real oak veneer rather than a wood-effect print – a thin layer of actual timber bonded to the panel, with genuine grain and texture. Every other wood-look wardrobe in the range uses a decor foil, which reproduces grain photographically but has no depth to it.
Where is the oak panel on the door?
Each door divides into four horizontal panels, with the oak set as the third one down, just below the midpoint. It runs unbroken across both doors, so it reads as a single horizontal line through the whole wardrobe.
Which width should I choose?
181cm gives two compartments of 90cm, the right size for a standard double bedroom. 226cm keeps two compartments but widens them to 112.5cm each – more generous per section, and better if you want long uninterrupted hanging. 271cm divides into three compartments of 90cm, which suits two people sharing. All three have two sliding doors.
Is this wardrobe grey or black?
Metallic Grey is a deep graphite rather than a mid grey – considerably closer to black, and in most rooms it reads as a near-black. That darkness is what makes the warm oak veneer stand out as it does.
Should I add soft close?
We would recommend it. Beyond the feel of a door closing quietly rather than banging, it takes the impact out of daily use, which is what keeps sliding doors running true over years rather than gradually dropping out of alignment.
What colour are the handles?
The wardrobe handles are metal in the carcase colour, so they sit quietly and leave the oak panel as the only detail on the front. The matching bedroom furniture uses oak handles instead, picking up the veneer.
What colour is the base plinth?
Silk Grey. Beneath the metallic grey doors this is visible as a lighter band at floor level. It is a design feature of the range rather than a fault or a variation.
What is inside the wardrobe?
Every compartment has one storage shelf and one hanging rail, both adjustable in height. Further interior accessories are available from the Rauch range and can be added to suit your own storage.
What delivery options are available?
Free delivery is included. Our professional assembly service is available at additional cost, where our fitters build the wardrobe in your chosen room.
Is it available in other styles?
Yes. Malva is also made with a full oak veneer door alongside a colour door, and with a full oak veneer door alongside a mirrored door.
Is it available in another colour?
Yes. The same wardrobe is produced in Champagne, where the oak sits against a warm pale neutral rather than a near-black.
Can I cancel or change my order?
No. This wardrobe is made to order by Rauch to your selected specification, so once the order has been processed it cannot be cancelled or amended. Please check your measurements and selected width carefully before ordering.
What guarantee does it come with?
Rauch provide a 10-Year Manufacturer Guarantee, subject to their warranty terms.
How do I look after the surfaces?
The surfaces are easy to maintain and should be cleaned with a dry cloth only.
