The Corner Problem, Solved
Every bedroom has a corner that does nothing. A standard wardrobe against one wall leaves the return wall unusable; two wardrobes meeting at right angles leave a dead void where they join, and one of them blocks the other. Lema is built for exactly that space, and it turns the least useful part of the room into roughly 3.6 cubic metres of storage.
What makes it work is the way the doors open. All four slide from the centre outwards, so the corner itself opens up rather than being hidden behind a door — a panoramic opening that gives you sight of the whole interior at once. On a conventional corner unit the corner is where things go to be forgotten; here it is the part you can actually see into.
Because the doors slide, no floor space is lost in front of them. In a corner — where two walls already limit how you move around the room — that matters more than it would along a single wall.
Matt Décor and Mirror
The two outer doors are matt décor; the two inner doors, meeting at the corner, are mirrored. It is the right arrangement for a corner wardrobe, and not simply for the look.
A corner is the darkest part of any room. Two mirrored doors set into that corner throw light back into the space and open up the angle visually, so a piece of furniture that could easily feel heavy in a tight corner instead makes the room feel larger.
Matt décor is the quietest of the three Lema finishes, and on a corner unit that restraint works in its favour. A non-reflective surround means the mirrors are the only thing catching light on the front — the contrast is clean, and the wardrobe reads as one calm plane folding round the corner rather than a collection of surfaces. It is also the most forgiving finish day to day, since matt does not show fingerprints in raking light the way a gloss or glass front does.
White is the brightest and, paired with the mirrors, the combination that does most for a small or north-facing room. Silk Grey is a soft light grey with a gentle warmth — the most adaptable of the four and the easiest to live with over time. Champagne is a pale, faintly golden neutral, warmer than grey and softer than white. Metallic Grey is a deep graphite, considerably closer to black than the name suggests; against mirrors it is the boldest of the four, with the dark door receding and letting the reflection lead.
Each door carries four horizontal panels, following the Rauch Quadra design, with fine lines running across both the décor and the mirrored doors so the front reads as one composition rather than two materials side by side.
Handles
Aluminium handles are the standard option — a clean brushed metal that works with all four colours. Carcase-colour handles, finished to match the wardrobe itself, are available at additional cost and give the more premium result: the handles disappear into the door, leaving the mirrors as the only interruption to the front. The effect is most pronounced on Metallic Grey, where matched handles on a near-black door make the whole outer section read as a single dark plane.
Inside
The interior divides into four compartments: 65.6cm, 115.8cm, 110.4cm and 65.6cm.
The two 65.6cm sections at the outer ends are conventional hanging compartments, each with two storage shelves and a clothes rail — one at the end of each wing.
The two large corner sections are fitted with four corner shelves, shaped to use the angle itself rather than wasting it. This is the part most corner wardrobes get wrong: a square shelf in a corner leaves an unreachable triangle behind it. These are made for the shape.
The full standard specification is two clothes rails, four storage shelves, four corner shelves, four sliding door dampers, and an integrated levelling feature — useful on an older floor, since a corner unit sits across two walls and any slope shows up immediately in the door alignment.
An interior drawer unit is available as an optional extra: three drawers in a 43 × 57 × 45cm unit, which can be fitted into either of the 65.6cm sections. It is worth considering, since a corner wardrobe otherwise offers only hanging and shelving.
Measuring Up
The two wings are not the same length: one measures 187cm and the other 182cm, both at 54cm deep. When you order you choose which wall takes the longer wing, so measure both walls out from the corner before deciding.
Two heights are available — 210cm for a standard modern ceiling, or 229cm where you have the height and want the extra storage above.
The base plinth is always supplied in Silk Grey. On White or Champagne that band is visible at floor level; on Silk Grey it disappears entirely. It is a deliberate design decision by Rauch rather than an omission.
We would recommend adding the assembly service on this model. A corner wardrobe is considerably more involved to build than a straight one: two carcases have to meet squarely at the corner, the sliding tracks must align across both wings, and the levelling has to be set before the doors are hung. It is not a difficult build for a professional fitter, but it is not a straightforward flat-pack either.
Extending the Wardrobe
