About the White Finish

Four metres of storage is a serious commitment of wall, and white is the finish that lets you make it without the room paying for it. Where a dark colourway at this width becomes the single defining element of the bedroom, white recedes. Combined with two full-height mirrors at the centre, this is the lightest configuration in the entire Supreme Duo range – a wall of storage that gives more light back to the room than it takes.

That makes it the practical answer for the rooms where four doors are usually ruled out. A long, narrow bedroom, a room with one modest window, a loft conversion where the ceiling limits what feels comfortable – all of these can take a 400cm white wardrobe far more easily than they could take the same wardrobe in graphite or black.

The two mirrored centre doors are the reason it works. Side by side they create a large uninterrupted reflective expanse – close to a mirrored wall without commissioning one – which visually pushes the opposite side of the room back and gives a white front the depth it would otherwise lack. Across four metres, unbroken white would read flat. Split by mirror at the centre and framed by white at either end, it reads as designed.

Those two centre doors open together. Draw either one and the other follows automatically, opening the whole mirrored section in a single movement rather than door by door. It is a small piece of engineering you notice every day, and characteristic of where Rauch spend their money in the BLACK collection. The mechanism sits at the top of the wardrobe, which is why this model needs a little more ceiling clearance than the two and three-door versions.

Across a span this wide, the quality of a white finish is impossible to disguise. Uneven surfaces, dull edges and the cream cast that cheaper white furniture develops would all show plainly at four metres. A crisp, even white that holds its colour is precisely what a German factory standard and a 10-year guarantee are for.

The outer doors are yours to specify. Glossy Colour Glass is genuine glass with a high-sheen surface, and alongside the mirrored centre it produces the brightest wardrobe front available in this range. Matt Colour Glass is also real glass but low-sheen, keeping the smooth solidity of glass with a softer, more architectural result. Matt Décor is a non-reflective panel finish – the quietest of the three, and the closest to a fitted wardrobe. The carcase is always Matt Décor.

The name Duo comes from the doors themselves: each is built from two panels rather than one full-height sheet. Visually that produces the split-door front and the three slim decorative strips running across it. Practically it solves a problem that catches a lot of people out with wardrobes this size – a 236cm door in a single piece is extremely difficult to carry up a staircase, round a landing or through a standard doorway. Two panels are manageable. If the bedroom is upstairs, or the access involves a turn, that is the difference between a straightforward installation and an impossible one.

Sliding doors are close to essential at this width. A four-door hinged wardrobe would need the better part of a metre of clear floor before a single door could open; this needs none. That is what makes a 400cm wardrobe possible in a room where the bed sits opposite, and the metal rail system is built to hold four heavy doors true and running smoothly over years rather than months.

Internally the wardrobe divides into four equal compartments – 80cm, 90cm or 100cm each depending on width – with two height-adjustable shelves and a full-width hanging rail in every one. Four separate hanging sections is far more usable than one long run: two people sharing can take two compartments each, or whole sections can be given over to bedding, luggage and out-of-season clothing without disturbing everyday storage.

Construction is what the rauch BLACK line is built on: high-quality wood-based panels, metal fittings and rails, and an MDF back wall for rigidity across the full four-metre span. With 68cm external depth and 58cm usable inside, garments hang square rather than pressing against the doors. Two heights are offered. The 236cm model adds a substantial band of storage above the hanging space where ceiling height allows; 223cm suits standard modern ceilings. Is delivery and assembly included?

How much space do I need to install it?
Allow 15cm of clearance at each side of the wardrobe, and an additional 15–20cm above it. This model needs more ceiling clearance than the two and three-door versions because the synchronised opening mechanism is housed at the top of the unit. On a wardrobe of this width, measure the full run of wall before ordering, including skirting boards, radiators and any point where the wall is not perfectly square.

What is synchronised opening?
The two mirrored centre doors are linked. Draw either one and the other opens with it automatically, so the whole mirrored section opens in a single movement rather than door by door. The mechanism sits at the top of the wardrobe and is fitted by our team during assembly.

Which doors are mirrored?
Both centre doors carry full-height mirrors as standard on this model, with your chosen finish on the two outer doors. Roughly half the front of the wardrobe is therefore mirrored, which gives a white front depth and stops four metres reading as a flat plane.

Will it fit up my stairs and into the room?
This is where the Duo design helps. Each door is built from two panels rather than a single full-height sheet, so the components are considerably easier to carry through doorways, up staircases and around landings than a wardrobe of this size would normally be. It is still worth checking that your access allows for the carcase panels, particularly on the 236cm height.

Is a 400cm wardrobe too much for an average bedroom?
In white, less than you might expect. This is the lightest configuration in the range – white outer doors either side of two full-height mirrors – so it returns more light to the room than it absorbs. The deciding factor is usually the run of wall available rather than the visual weight.

How long will it take to arrive?
Dispatch is 8 to 10 weeks. This is a dispatch timeframe rather than a delivery date: the wardrobe is built to your specification in Germany and then shipped to the UK. Occasionally items arrive sooner, and during German factory holiday closures it can take slightly longer.

Can I cancel or change my order?
No. This wardrobe is made to order in your chosen finish and size, so once the order has been processed with Rauch it cannot be cancelled or amended. Please check your measurements and selected options carefully before ordering.

What is the difference between the three front finishes?
Matt Décor is a panel finish with a soft, non-reflective surface. Glossy Colour Glass is genuine glass with a high-sheen, light-reflecting front – the brightest of the three on white. Matt Colour Glass is also genuine glass, but with a low-sheen surface that minimises reflections. All three are supplied in White, with the mirrored centre doors and Matt Décor carcase unchanged across the range.

How wide is each internal compartment?
The interior is divided into four equal sections. On the 320cm model each compartment is 80cm wide, on the 360cm model 90cm, and on the 400cm model 100cm. Every compartment has its own shelves and hanging rail.

Does white show marks?
Less than any other colour in the range. Dust barely shows on white, and everyday marks are far less visible than on a dark finish. Gloss white shows fingerprints only lightly. All surfaces clean with a dry cloth.

What guarantee does it come with?

Can I add more shelves or rails inside?
