About the Black Finish
Four metres of black sounds like the boldest thing in the range, and in one sense it is. But this is also the easiest of the three configurations to live with, because half the front of the wardrobe is mirror. The two centre doors are full-height mirrored panels sitting side by side, so the black appears in two framing sections at either end rather than as one continuous four-metre plane. You get the drama of the colour without the weight of it.
The black itself is a true black rather than a very dark grey – no charcoal softness, no shift in daylight. Against white walls, pale flooring and a restrained palette the result is genuinely architectural: the wardrobe reads as a fitted wall rather than furniture, and at this width that impression is far stronger than on any smaller model. It suits monochrome, contemporary and industrial schemes, and takes chrome or brushed steel particularly well.
The mirrored pair does something a single mirror cannot. Two full-height mirrors together create a large uninterrupted reflective expanse – the nearest thing to a mirrored wall without commissioning one – and positioned across from a window it pushes the opposite side of the room back noticeably. On a colour this dark, that is not decoration; it is what makes four metres of black work in a bedroom at all.
Those two centre doors open together. Draw either one and the other follows automatically, opening the whole mirrored section in a single movement rather than door by door. It is a small piece of engineering you notice every day, and characteristic of where Rauch spend their money in the BLACK collection. The mechanism sits at the top of the wardrobe, which is why this model needs a little more ceiling clearance than the two and three-door versions.
The outer doors are yours to specify. Glossy Colour Glass is genuine glass with a high-sheen surface; on black it produces a deep, lacquered, piano-like finish that catches every light source, and alongside the mirrored centre it moves a considerable amount of light around the room. Matt Colour Glass is also real glass but low-sheen, holding that depth while avoiding reflections. Matt Décor is a soft, non-reflective panel front – the most restrained option, and the one that lets a wardrobe of this size sit quietly. The carcase is always Matt Décor.
One practical point on the gloss option: black gloss shows fingerprints and dust more readily than any other combination in the range. Because the mirrored centre doors are the ones handled most often, the outer gloss doors stay cleaner here than they would on a smaller model – but if low maintenance matters, the matt finishes are the safer choice.
The name Duo comes from the doors themselves: each is built from two panels rather than one full-height sheet. Visually that produces the split-door front and the three slim decorative strips running across it. Practically it solves a problem that catches a lot of people out with wardrobes this size – a 236cm door in a single piece is extremely difficult to carry up a staircase, round a landing or through a standard doorway. Two panels are manageable. If the bedroom is upstairs, or the access involves a turn, that is the difference between a straightforward installation and an impossible one.
Sliding doors are close to essential at this width. A four-door hinged wardrobe would need the better part of a metre of clear floor before a single door could open; this needs none. That is what makes a 400cm wardrobe possible in a room where the bed sits opposite, and the metal rail system is built to hold four heavy doors true and running smoothly over years rather than months.
Internally the wardrobe divides into four equal compartments – 80cm, 90cm or 100cm each depending on width – with two height-adjustable shelves and a full-width hanging rail in every one. Four separate hanging sections is far more usable than one long run: two people sharing can take two compartments each, or whole sections can be given over to bedding, luggage and out-of-season clothing without disturbing everyday storage.
Construction is what the rauch BLACK line is built on: high-quality wood-based panels, metal fittings and rails, and an MDF back wall for rigidity across the full four-metre span. With 68cm external depth and 58cm usable inside, garments hang square rather than pressing against the doors. As a 100% Made in Germany product carrying both the Blue Angel and Golden M seals, it meets independently verified standards for low emissions and furniture quality.
Two heights are offered. The 236cm model adds a substantial band of storage above the hanging space where ceiling height allows; 223cm suits standard modern ceilings. If four doors is more than the wall will take, the Supreme Duo is also produced as a 2-door wardrobe from 160cm to 200cm and a 3-door wardrobe from 240cm to 300cm. Matching bedside tables and chests of drawers are available from the same collection.
Internal Storage Layout
-
Four equal compartments: Each measuring 80cm (320cm model), 90cm (360cm model) or 100cm (400cm model) in width
-
First compartment: 2 height-adjustable storage shelves in the upper section, with 1 full-width hanging rail beneath
-
Second compartment: Identical arrangement – 2 height-adjustable shelves above and 1 full-width hanging rail below, positioned behind the left mirrored door
-
Third compartment: Identical arrangement, positioned behind the right mirrored door
-
Fourth compartment: Identical arrangement – 2 height-adjustable shelves above and 1 full-width hanging rail below
-
Total hanging space: Four separate rails rather than one continuous run, allowing the wardrobe to be divided between users or dedicated to different garment types and seasons
-
Centre access: The synchronised centre doors open together, exposing the two middle compartments in a single movement
-
Shelf adjustment: Shelves reposition independently in each compartment, so one section can be set for full-length garments while another is given over to folded storage
-
Usable depth: 58cm throughout, allowing garments to hang square without contact with the sliding doors
-
Height options: The 236cm model provides additional storage volume above the hanging section in all four compartments compared with the 223cm model
-
Additional fittings: Extra shelves, rails and interior accessories can be selected under Extras when ordering

FAQs
Is delivery and assembly included?
Yes. Delivery and full professional assembly are included at no extra cost, to England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland. Our team builds the wardrobe in your room of choice – there is nothing to add at checkout and nothing for you to assemble.
How much space do I need to install it?
Allow 15cm of clearance at each side of the wardrobe, and an additional 15–20cm above it. This model needs more ceiling clearance than the two and three-door versions because the synchronised opening mechanism is housed at the top of the unit. On a wardrobe of this width, measure the full run of wall before ordering, including skirting boards, radiators and any point where the wall is not perfectly square.
What is synchronised opening?
The two mirrored centre doors are linked. Draw either one and the other opens with it automatically, so the whole mirrored section opens in a single movement rather than door by door. The mechanism sits at the top of the wardrobe and is fitted by our team during assembly.
Which doors are mirrored?
Both centre doors carry full-height mirrors as standard on this model, with your chosen finish on the two outer doors. Roughly half the front of the wardrobe is therefore mirrored, which is what keeps a black finish from feeling heavy at this width.
Will it fit up my stairs and into the room?
This is where the Duo design helps. Each door is built from two panels rather than a single full-height sheet, so the components are considerably easier to carry through doorways, up staircases and around landings than a wardrobe of this size would normally be. It is still worth checking that your access allows for the carcase panels, particularly on the 236cm height.
Is black too dark for a bedroom?
Less so in this configuration than in any other. With two full-height mirrors at the centre, the black appears only in the two outer sections and the mirrors return a good deal of light. Black works best against white or off-white walls and pale flooring; in a small or north-facing bedroom, a lighter colourway from the range may still suit better.
How long will it take to arrive?
Dispatch is 8 to 10 weeks. This is a dispatch timeframe rather than a delivery date: the wardrobe is built to your specification in Germany and then shipped to the UK. Occasionally items arrive sooner, and during German factory holiday closures it can take slightly longer.
Can I cancel or change my order?
No. This wardrobe is made to order in your chosen finish and size, so once the order has been processed with Rauch it cannot be cancelled or amended. Please check your measurements and selected options carefully before ordering.
What is the difference between the three front finishes?
Matt Décor is a panel finish with a soft, non-reflective surface. Glossy Colour Glass is genuine glass with a high-sheen front, which on black produces a deep, lacquered, piano-like finish. Matt Colour Glass is also genuine glass, but with a low-sheen surface that minimises reflections. All three are supplied in Black, with the mirrored centre doors and Matt Décor carcase unchanged across the range.
How wide is each internal compartment?
The interior is divided into four equal sections. On the 320cm model each compartment is 80cm wide, on the 360cm model 90cm, and on the 400cm model 100cm. Every compartment has its own shelves and hanging rail.
Does black show fingerprints and dust?
Gloss black shows marks more readily than the matt finishes. On this model the mirrored centre doors take most of the daily handling, so the outer doors stay cleaner than they would on a smaller wardrobe. All surfaces clean with a dry cloth.
What guarantee does it come with?
Rauch provide a 10-Year Manufacturer Guarantee, subject to their warranty terms – a reflection of the build standard behind the rauch BLACK collection.
Can I add more shelves or rails inside?
Yes. The wardrobe comes with the standard interior of two adjustable shelves and one hanging rail per compartment. Additional interior fittings can be selected under Extras before you complete your order.
Are other sizes available?
Yes. The Supreme Duo is also produced as a 2-door wardrobe from 160cm to 200cm and a 3-door wardrobe from 240cm to 300cm.
Is there matching bedroom furniture?
Yes. Coordinating bedside tables and chests of drawers are available from the same collection.
How do I look after the surfaces?
The surfaces are easy to maintain and should be cleaned with a dry cloth only.
