About the Metallic Grey Finish
Despite the name, this is not a mid grey. Metallic Grey is a deep, dark graphite – considerably closer to black than to silver, and in most rooms it reads as a near-black rather than a grey at all. If you have been searching for a dark or black wardrobe, this is the colourway, and the softness in the tone is usually what people actually want in a bedroom rather than a true black.
Across 226cm that darkness is a genuine design decision rather than a background one. A wardrobe this wide in graphite becomes the anchor of the room, so it needs a scheme with the light and contrast to carry it – white or off-white walls, pale flooring, a restrained palette. In that setting the effect is architectural: a deliberate dark plane rather than a heavy piece of furniture. In a small or north-facing bedroom, the white version of this wardrobe will do considerably more for the space.
The long chrome handles are what stop it feeling severe. Five bright vertical lines running the full height of a graphite front give the wardrobe a strong, regular rhythm, and against a dark colour the chrome catches every light source in the room. On a front this wide that structure matters – it divides the darkness into readable sections rather than presenting one continuous slab.
The Glamour range takes its name from the door fronts, and on a dark colour the three options give three genuinely different pieces of furniture.
Metallic grey décor is the quiet choice. A soft, non-reflective panel finish matching the carcase exactly, so more than two metres of wardrobe reads as one solid architectural block. On a dark tone this is also the most forgiving option practically: matt surfaces do not show fingerprints in raking light the way reflective dark ones do, which matters when there is this much surface to keep on top of.
High gloss graphite is the dramatic one. A reflective lacquered surface on a near-black colour produces something close to a piano finish – deep, glassy, and catching every light in the room. Across five doors it is the most theatrical option in the range, though it does need regular attention to look its best.
Basalt glass is the premium option, and the one this collection is named for. These are genuine tempered glass fronts rather than a lacquered panel, and on a dark colour the difference is more visible than on any pale one: light travels across glass rather than stopping at it, giving the doors a lacquered depth and movement that no coating reproduces. It also holds that appearance permanently, with no scuffed edges over time.
Internally the wardrobe divides into three compartments – 90cm, 45cm and 90cm. Each has a storage shelf and a hanging rail, all height-adjustable, so the interior adapts to what you actually own rather than what the factory assumed. The narrow 45cm section is more useful than its width suggests: it gives you a separate column for shirts, blouses or one person's everyday rotation, kept apart from the bulk storage either side.
At 226cm wide, 210cm high and 54cm deep, this fits a longer bedroom wall without demanding a specialist ceiling height. Manufactured 100% in Germany and certified with the Blue Angel and Golden M ecolabels, it meets independently verified standards for low emissions and furniture quality – worth having on a piece of furniture this size in a room you sleep in. It carries a 10-year manufacturer guarantee.
If you would prefer a mirror built into the wardrobe rather than standing separately, the same model is produced as a 5 door mirrored wardrobe at this width, with three mirrored centre doors – worth serious thought on a dark colourway, since the mirrors return a good deal of the light the graphite absorbs. Glamour is also made as a 4 door wardrobe at 181cm and a large 6 door wardrobe at 271cm.
The collection is also produced in White, where the three fronts are matt décor, high gloss white and white crystal glass. Matching bedside tables and chests of drawers are available from the same collection.
Internal Storage Layout
-
Three compartments: Arranged at 90cm, 45cm and 90cm across the 226cm width
-
Left compartment (90cm): 1 storage shelf and 1 hanging rail for coats, dresses, shirts and suits
-
Centre compartment (45cm): Identical fittings – 1 storage shelf and 1 hanging rail. A narrower column suited to shirts, blouses or one person's everyday rotation
-
Right compartment (90cm): Identical fittings – 1 storage shelf and 1 hanging rail
-
Total hanging space: Three separate rails rather than one continuous run, allowing the wardrobe to be divided between users or garment types
-
Adjustability: All shelves and rails are height-adjustable, so one section can be set for full-length garments while another is given over to folded storage
-
Additional fittings: Further interior accessories are available from the Rauch range

FAQs
Is this wardrobe grey or black?
Despite the name, Metallic Grey is a deep graphite rather than a mid grey – considerably closer to black, and in most rooms it reads as a near-black. If you are looking for a dark or black wardrobe, this is the colourway, and most people find the slight softness preferable to a true black in a bedroom.
What are the three front finishes?
Metallic grey décor is a soft, non-reflective panel finish matching the carcase. High gloss graphite is a reflective lacquered surface, close to a piano finish on a dark colour. Basalt glass is genuine tempered glass, giving the deepest, most lacquered result of the three. The carcase, interior, handles and dimensions are identical on all three.
Which finish should I choose?
Décor if you want the wardrobe to sit quietly and stay low-maintenance – matt is far more forgiving of fingerprints on a dark colour, and across five doors there is a lot of surface to keep clean. High gloss for maximum drama. Basalt glass if the wardrobe is a feature of the room and you want the finish with the most depth.
Is the basalt glass real glass?
Yes. The basalt fronts are genuine tempered glass, not a printed or lacquered panel. On a dark colour the difference is particularly noticeable – glass gives a depth and movement across the surface that a coated panel cannot reproduce.
Does a dark finish show fingerprints and dust?
The gloss and glass fronts show marks more readily than the matt décor, which is markedly more forgiving. All three clean with a dry cloth, but on a wardrobe this wide, décor is the practical choice if low maintenance matters.
Is a wardrobe this dark right for my room?
It depends on the light rather than the floor area. At 226cm in graphite the wardrobe becomes the anchor of the room, so it works best against white or off-white walls and pale flooring with reasonable natural light. In a small or north-facing bedroom, the white version – or the mirrored version of this one – will serve the space better.
How is the wardrobe divided inside?
Into three compartments of 90cm, 45cm and 90cm. Each has one storage shelf and one hanging rail, all height-adjustable. The narrow centre section gives you a separate column for shirts or everyday clothes, kept apart from the bulk storage either side.
What delivery options are available?
Free delivery is to your door – our drivers will not take the wardrobe into the house. Room of choice delivery is available at additional cost, where the wardrobe is brought to the room you specify. Full assembly is also available at additional cost, where our professional wardrobe fitters build the unit in your chosen room.
How much space do I need to install it?
Allow 25cm of clearance for installation. On a wardrobe of this width it is worth measuring the full run of wall before ordering, including skirting boards, radiators and any point where the wall is not perfectly square.
Is a mirrored version available?
Yes. The same wardrobe is produced as a 5 door mirrored wardrobe at 226cm, with three mirrored centre doors. On a dark colourway it is worth considering, since the mirrors return a good deal of the light the graphite absorbs.
Is it available in other sizes?
Yes. Glamour is produced as a 4 door wardrobe at 181cm and a large 6 door wardrobe at 271cm.
Can I cancel or change my order?
No. This wardrobe is made to order by Rauch to your selected specification, so once the order has been processed it cannot be cancelled or amended. Please check your measurements and selected finish carefully before ordering.
What guarantee does it come with?
Rauch provide a 10-Year Manufacturer Guarantee, subject to their warranty terms.
Is there matching bedroom furniture?
Yes. Coordinating bedside tables and chests of drawers are available from the same collection.
How do I look after the surfaces?
The surfaces are easy to maintain and should be cleaned with a dry cloth only.
