About the Mirrored Front
At 271cm with mirror across all three doors, this is close to a mirrored wall – and Malibu handles that scale more thoughtfully than most. Each door is divided into five horizontal panels: three mirrored panels running through the centre, with a band of décor at the top and another at the bottom, each roughly half the depth of a mirror panel. The mirror is framed rather than simply applied, with fine horizontal lines breaking a very large reflective expanse into readable sections.
That framing matters more the wider the wardrobe gets. Nearly three metres of unbroken mirror looks like a fitting rather than furniture, and it reflects ceiling and skirting in a way that emphasises exactly what you would rather not notice. Closing the top and bottom keeps the reflection on the useful part of the room – you, and the space around you – while giving the wardrobe a defined edge.
The effect on a bedroom is disproportionate to the space it occupies. Nine mirrored panels across three doors visually double the depth of the room, redistribute every bit of available light, and remove the need for a freestanding mirror taking up floor space. On a wardrobe already filling most of one wall, reclaiming that floor is worth having.
You choose the colour of the surround, and the two options give different results.
White is the brighter of the two. Pale surround and bright mirror both return light rather than absorbing it, so the whole front lifts the room – the choice for a smaller or north-facing bedroom, or anywhere the priority is keeping a large wardrobe from feeling imposing. The bands are almost invisible against the mirror, which is deliberate: the front reads as one continuous bright plane.
Metallic Grey is a deep graphite rather than a mid grey – considerably closer to black. Against mirror that darkness works in your favour: a dark border recedes and lets the reflection lead, and it makes the horizontal divisions read as deliberate lines rather than joins. It is the more graphic and architectural of the two, and it suits a room with light to spare and a restrained palette elsewhere.
Sliding doors are close to essential at this width. A hinged wardrobe of 271cm needs the better part of a metre of clear floor before a door can open; this needs none, which makes it workable in a room where the bed sits opposite or a doorway limits the space. On a mirrored front that matters twice over, since a hinged mirrored door swinging into a bedroom is both an obstruction and a hazard. Malibu runs on a smooth-glide system, and at 62cm deep garments hang square on the rail rather than pressing against the doors.
Internally the wardrobe divides into three equal 90cm compartments, each with a storage shelf and a hanging rail.
