Three Compartments, Including a Narrow Centre
At 250cm the Cairns divides into three compartments — 100cm, 50cm and 100cm — each with two adjustable wooden shelves and a metal hanging rail. It is a better arrangement than two very wide sections would be, and the narrow centre is the reason.
A 50cm column separates things that would otherwise get mixed in. Shirts and blouses, one person's everyday rotation, a run of shorter garments, or simply the clothes you reach for most — kept apart from the bulk storage either side rather than buried in it. On a wardrobe this wide, that division is what stops the interior becoming one undifferentiated space you have to dig through.
The two 100cm compartments either side work as a clean split for two people sharing, with the centre section as shared or overflow space. Two shelves per compartment is more than most wardrobes offer, and because they adjust, the balance between hanging and folded storage is yours to set section by section.
Further interior options are available if you want to build it out: extra shelves, drawers, pull-out rails and LED lighting.
Five Colours, Including Sage Green
Cairns comes in five finishes, and one of them is unusual enough to be the reason people choose this range.
Sage Green is a soft, muted green with grey in it — closer to a heritage paint colour than anything you would normally find on a German wardrobe, where the palette is almost always white, grey or oak. Across 250cm it becomes the defining colour of the room, and the fact that it is still fundamentally a soft neutral is what allows that to work.
White is the brightest and does most to keep a wardrobe this wide from dominating. Pebble Grey is a warm mid grey — softer than a cool grey and easier to live with over time. Champagne is a pale, faintly golden neutral, warmer than grey and softer than white. Graphite is a deep near-black, the boldest of the five; at two and a half metres it defines the bedroom rather than sitting in it, so it needs a room with light to spare.
The carcase matches the doors on all five, so the wardrobe reads as one finish rather than coloured fronts on a white box.
Cornice or Passepartout – What's the Difference?
Cairns comes with a cornice as standard, and you can swap it for a Passepartout frame instead. They do different jobs, and the choice changes both the look and the measurements.
A cornice is a decorative moulded top section fitted above the wardrobe. It finishes the unit off, adds 4cm to the height and gives a more traditional, furnished appearance — the same idea as the cornice on a fitted kitchen. The wardrobe still stands freestanding with a gap above and down each side; the cornice simply gives the top a proper edge.
A Passepartout frame surrounds the wardrobe across the top and down both sides, closing the gap between the furniture and the room. The result is a built-in appearance: no daylight above, no shadow line at the edges, and no dust shelf forming on top. At 250cm that difference is at its most valuable — a wardrobe this wide reads either as a fitted wall of storage or as a very large freestanding unit, and the frame is what decides which.
The practical difference is the width. With the cornice the wardrobe is 250cm wide and 220cm high. With the Passepartout frame it is 256cm wide and 220cm high — the frame adds 3cm to each side. On a wardrobe already occupying most of a wall, check that 6cm carefully before choosing.
The Mirror Option
Mirror panels are available on the doors, positioned deliberately: sections at the top and bottom of the door rather than one continuous panel. The lower mirror sits at the right height for shoes and hems, the upper for checking an outfit from the waist up, and the band of colour between them breaks up what would otherwise be a large reflective expanse facing the bed.
On the darker finishes — Graphite in particular — that split works especially well, since the mirror panels catch light against a near-black door and give a wide front real definition.
Doors and Handles
All five doors have soft-close cushioned hinges and open to 95°, which is wider than the usual 90° — enough that the door clears the opening completely and you can pull a drawer or a basket straight out without the door edge in the way.
Handles are horizontal metal bars in a choice of Silver or Slate. Silver is the quieter option on the paler finishes; Slate is a darker, more contemporary accent that works particularly well on Sage Green and Graphite. Across five doors those horizontal lines give a two-and-a-half-metre front a regular rhythm rather than leaving it as a flat expanse.
The Rest of the Cairns Range
Cairns is produced in five widths, and in most of them you can choose a version with drawers built in beneath the centre doors — useful if you would rather not have a separate chest of drawers in the room.
Matching bedside cabinets, chests of drawers and mirrors are available from the same collection.
Construction and Guarantee
Cairns is built from wood-based panels with a hardboard back, engineered wood shelves and metal rails and hinges. It is Made in Germany, ISO 9001 certified and carries Germany's Golden M quality mark — an independent furniture quality certification rather than a manufacturer's own claim. Wiemann provide a 2-year manufacturer guarantee covering materials and workmanship under normal residential use.
Installation needs 3–5cm of clearance at each side and above — considerably less than many German wardrobes require, which on a wardrobe of this width makes a real difference to where it can go.

FAQs
How is the wardrobe divided inside?
Into three compartments of 100cm, 50cm and 100cm, each with two adjustable wooden shelves and a metal hanging rail. The narrow centre gives you a separate column for shirts or everyday clothes, kept apart from the bulk storage either side.
Why a 50cm section in the middle?
Because two very wide compartments become one undifferentiated space you have to dig through. A narrow column separates the clothes you reach for most, and on a wardrobe this wide that division is what makes the interior usable rather than simply large.
What colours does it come in?
Five: White, Pebble Grey, Champagne, Graphite and Sage Green. The carcase matches the doors on all of them, so the wardrobe reads as one finish rather than coloured fronts on a white box.
What is Sage Green like?
A soft, muted green with grey in it — closer to a heritage paint colour than anything usually found on German bedroom furniture. Across 250cm it becomes the defining colour of the room, though it remains soft enough to keep the space calm.
Is a wardrobe this wide right for my room?
At 250cm it needs a substantial run of clear wall, but at 58cm deep the footprint is no greater than a smaller wardrobe — only the width changes. In White or Pebble Grey it carries considerably less visual weight than Graphite would at this size.
What is the difference between the cornice and the Passepartout frame?
A cornice is a decorative top section fitted above the wardrobe, finishing off the unit and adding 4cm to the height. A Passepartout frame surrounds the wardrobe across the top and down both sides, closing the gap to the room so the wardrobe looks built in rather than freestanding — which at this width is the difference between a wall of storage and a very large piece of furniture.
Does the Passepartout frame change the size?
Yes, and on a wardrobe this wide it matters. With the cornice it is 250cm; with the Passepartout frame it is 256cm, since the frame adds 3cm to each side. Both are 220cm high. Check the full run of wall before choosing.
How is the mirror arranged?
Mirror panels at the top and bottom of the door rather than one continuous panel, with a band of colour between them. The lower mirror sits at the right height for shoes and hems, the upper for checking an outfit.
How far do the doors open?
95°, wider than the usual 90° — enough that the door clears the opening completely and a drawer or basket can be pulled straight out without the door edge in the way. All five doors have soft-close cushioned hinges.
Which handle should I choose?
Silver is the quieter option on the paler finishes. Slate is darker and more contemporary, and works particularly well on Sage Green and Graphite.
How much space do I need to install it?
3–5cm of clearance at each side and above, considerably less than many German wardrobes require. Remember to allow the extra 6cm of width if you choose the Passepartout frame.
Is it available in other sizes?
Yes. Cairns is produced as a 3 door at 150cm, a 4 door at 200cm and a 6 door at 300cm, with drawer versions available in most widths.
What guarantee does it come with?
Wiemann provide a 2-year manufacturer guarantee covering materials and workmanship under normal residential use.
What delivery options are available?
Free delivery is included. Our professional assembly service is available at additional cost, where our fitters build the wardrobe in your chosen room. On a wardrobe of this size it is worth considering.
How long will it take to arrive?
Dispatch is 8 to 10 weeks. This is a dispatch timeframe rather than a delivery date: the wardrobe is built to your specification in Germany and then shipped to the UK.
Can I cancel or change my order?
No. This wardrobe is made to order by Wiemann to your selected specification, so once the order has been processed it cannot be cancelled or amended. Please check your measurements and selected options carefully before ordering.
How do I look after the surfaces?
The surfaces are easy to maintain and should be cleaned with a dry cloth only.
