About the White and Mirror Front
White and mirror is the brightest combination available in a wardrobe, and Malibu handles it more thoughtfully than most. Each door is divided into five horizontal panels: three mirrored panels running through the centre, with a band of white décor at the top and another at the bottom, each roughly half the depth of a mirror panel. The mirror is framed rather than simply applied – bordered above and below, with fine horizontal lines breaking the reflection into readable sections.
On white that framing is almost invisible, and deliberately so. Where the darker colourways in the range set up a contrast between border and reflection, here the two work together: a pale surround and a bright mirror both return light rather than absorbing it, so the whole front lifts the room. In a small bedroom, a north-facing room or a loft conversion with limited daylight, no other wardrobe front in the range will do as much for the space.
The white bands still earn their place. An unbroken sheet of mirror can look like a fitting rather than furniture, and it reflects the ceiling and skirting in a way that emphasises exactly what you would rather not notice. Closing the top and bottom keeps the reflection on the useful part of the room – you, and the space around you – while giving the wardrobe a defined edge.
Practically, three mirrored panels across two doors give you a substantial full-length reflective surface. That visually doubles the depth of the room, redistributes the available light, and removes the need for a freestanding mirror taking up floor space. In a bedroom that already gives up a wall to storage, reclaiming that floor is worth having.
Sliding doors are the practical choice wherever floor space is limited. Nothing swings out into the room, so the wardrobe can sit opposite a bed, beside a doorway or in a narrow room without losing usable floor – and on a mirrored front that matters twice over, since a hinged mirrored door swinging into the room is both an obstruction and a hazard. Malibu runs on a smooth-glide system, and at 62cm deep garments hang square on the rail rather than pressing against the doors.
Two widths are offered, and the difference is more than extra centimetres. At 181cm the wardrobe divides into two 90cm compartments – the right proportion for a standard double bedroom. At 226cm the two compartments open out to 112.5cm each, which is unusually generous: wide enough that a full season's coats or a long run of dresses sits in a single section without crowding. If you have the wall for it, the wider model gives noticeably more usable hanging space per compartment rather than simply more compartments to divide things between.
Both compartments are fitted with a storage shelf and a hanging rail. The interior is deliberately open rather than heavily fitted, so you can build it out with additional shelves, hanging rails, interior drawers and compartment dividers if you need them.
