About the Artisan Oak and Mirror Front

Wood and mirror is the most interesting pairing in the Malibu range, and the one that stops a large mirrored wardrobe feeling like a fitting. Each door is divided into five horizontal panels: three mirrored panels running through the centre, with a band of Artisan Oak at the top and another at the bottom, each roughly half the depth of a mirror panel. The grain closes the front above and below, and the mirror runs uninterrupted between.

That combination does something neither material manages alone. Nearly three metres of unbroken mirror is cold – it reflects ceiling and skirting and reads as glass rather than furniture. Nearly three metres of oak is heavy. Here the wood gives the wardrobe warmth and a defined edge, while the mirror keeps the middle open and reflects the useful part of the room back at you. Against a smooth reflective surface, the pronounced grain and knot detail of Artisan Oak is exactly the contrast that makes the piece look designed.

It is also the version that suits a natural scheme. Where the white and metallic grey options sit best in a contemporary room, oak belongs alongside linen, wool, rattan and warm off-whites – and the mirror stops that warmth from tipping into anything heavy or rustic. If your bedroom is built around natural materials but you still want the light a mirrored front gives, this is the answer.

Artisan Oak is a wood-effect finish with pronounced grain and genuine knot detail – warm, textural, and clearly a wood rather than a wood-coloured surface. It is dimensionally stable in a centrally heated bedroom, needs no treatment, and will not develop the shrinkage gaps solid timber can across a wardrobe of this width.

The effect of the mirror on a bedroom is disproportionate to the space it occupies. Nine mirrored panels across three doors visually double the depth of the room, redistribute the available light, and remove the need for a freestanding mirror taking up floor space. On a wardrobe already filling most of one wall, reclaiming that floor is worth having.

Sliding doors are close to essential at this width. A hinged wardrobe of 271cm needs the better part of a metre of clear floor before a door can open; this needs none, which makes it workable in a room where the bed sits opposite or a doorway limits the space. On a mirrored front that matters twice over, since a hinged mirrored door swinging into a bedroom is both an obstruction and a hazard. Malibu runs on a smooth-glide system, and at 62cm deep garments hang square on the rail rather than pressing against the doors.

Internally the wardrobe divides into three equal 90cm compartments, each with a storage shelf and a hanging rail. Three separate hanging sections is a more usable arrangement than one long run: two people sharing can take a compartment each, with the third given over to bedding, luggage or out-of-season clothing. The interior is deliberately open rather than heavily fitted, so you can build it out with additional shelves, hanging rails, interior drawers and compartment dividers if you need them.

At 210cm high this fits a standard modern bedroom without needing a specialist ceiling height, and the footprint is no greater than a smaller wardrobe – only the run of wall changes. Made in Germany as part of the Rauch Orange range and backed by a 10-year manufacturer guarantee.

At this width Malibu is also produced with a choice of Metallic Grey or White surround, if you would prefer a plain rather than wood-effect frame around the mirror. The range is also made as a two-door sliding wardrobe in 181cm and 226cm widths, with an Artisan Oak surround, a Metallic Grey surround or a White surround.

Internal Storage Layout

  • Three compartments: Each 90cm wide across the 271cm width
  • Left compartment (90cm): 1 storage shelf and 1 hanging rail for coats, dresses, shirts and suits
  • Centre compartment (90cm): Identical fittings – 1 storage shelf and 1 hanging rail
  • Right compartment (90cm): Identical fittings – 1 storage shelf and 1 hanging rail
  • Total hanging space: Three separate rails rather than one continuous run, allowing the wardrobe to be divided between users, seasons or garment types
  • Depth: 62cm, allowing garments to hang square without contact with the sliding doors
  • Additional fittings: Extra shelves, hanging rails, interior drawers and compartment dividers can be selected as optional extras when ordering

FAQs

How is the mirror arranged on the doors?
Each sliding door is divided into five horizontal panels. Three mirrored panels run through the centre, with a band of Artisan Oak at the top and another at the bottom, each roughly half the depth of a mirror panel. The mirror is framed above and below rather than running edge to edge.

Is Artisan Oak solid wood?
Artisan Oak is a wood-effect finish with pronounced grain and knot detail. It is dimensionally stable in a centrally heated bedroom, needs no treatment, and will not develop the shrinkage gaps solid timber can across a wardrobe of this width.

Why choose oak rather than a plain finish?
Wood grain against mirror is a genuine contrast – it gives the wardrobe warmth and a defined edge where a plain band would simply recede. It also suits a bedroom built around natural materials such as linen, wool and rattan, where a white or graphite front would look more contemporary than the rest of the room.

Is a wardrobe this large right for my room?
At 271cm wide it needs a substantial run of clear wall, but at 62cm deep the footprint is no greater than a smaller wardrobe, and because the doors slide no floor space is lost in front of it. The mirrored front works in your favour at this size – it reflects the room back rather than presenting a solid mass, and the oak keeps that reflection from feeling cold.

How deep is it?
62cm. The depth is what allows garments to hang square on the rail without pressing against the sliding doors.

Why choose sliding doors on a mirrored wardrobe?
Nothing swings out into the room, so no floor space is lost in front of the wardrobe – and a hinged mirrored door swinging into a bedroom is both an obstruction and a hazard. Sliding doors avoid both, which matters more at this width than at any smaller size.

How is the wardrobe divided inside?
Into three equal 90cm compartments, each with one storage shelf and one hanging rail. The interior is deliberately open, so you can build it out with the optional accessories to suit your own storage.

Can I add more to the interior?
Yes. Additional shelves, hanging rails, interior drawers and compartment dividers are all available as optional extras and can be selected when you place your order.

What delivery options are available?
Free delivery is to your door across England, Wales and Scotland – our drivers will not take the wardrobe into the house. Room of choice delivery is available at additional cost, where the wardrobe is brought to the room you specify, and full assembly is available at additional cost, where our professional fitters build the unit in your chosen room. On a wardrobe of this size the assembly service is worth considering. In Northern Ireland the wardrobe is supplied with our delivery and assembly service rather than standard delivery.

Is it available in other colours?
Yes. At this width Malibu is also produced with a choice of Metallic Grey or White surround.

Is it available in a smaller size?
Yes. Malibu is produced as a two-door sliding wardrobe in 181cm and 226cm widths, with an Artisan Oak surround, a Metallic Grey surround or a White surround.

Can I cancel or change my order?
No. This wardrobe is made to order by Rauch to your selected specification, so once the order has been processed it cannot be cancelled or amended. Please check your measurements carefully before ordering.

What guarantee does it come with?
Rauch provide a 10-Year Manufacturer Guarantee, subject to their warranty terms.

How do I look after the surfaces?
The surfaces are easy to maintain and should be cleaned with a dry cloth only.

How Professional Assembly Works

Step 1

Choose Your Wardrobe

Browse our wardrobe collections and choose the size, finish and configuration that works for your bedroom.

Step 2

Select Your Delivery Service

Where available, select Professional Delivery & Assembly from the delivery options shown directly on the product page.

Step 3

Prepare the Room

Make sure the room and access route are clear and that sufficient floor and ceiling space is available for safe assembly.

Step 4

We Take Care of the Rest

Our specialist team will deliver, assemble, position and check your wardrobe before completing the handover.

Preparing Your Room for Assembly

Large wardrobes normally need to be assembled flat before being carefully raised into their final position. Preparing the room before the delivery team arrives is therefore essential.

  • Ensure the room has sufficient clear floor space for the wardrobe to be assembled lying flat.
  • Allow approximately 20cm of clearance around the wardrobe footprint where possible.
  • Allow approximately 15–20cm of ceiling clearance above the finished height of the wardrobe.
  • Ensure access routes, doorways, hallways and stairs are clear and suitable for the wardrobe components to be safely carried into the room.
  • Remove furniture and other items that may obstruct the assembly area.
  • Consider radiators, light fittings, low ceilings, sloping ceilings and other permanent obstructions that could prevent safe assembly.
  • Our wardrobes are freestanding and the assembly team may require access around the furniture during installation.
Important: If our assembly team arrives and the room or access route is not suitable for safe delivery and assembly, they may be unable to complete the service. The assembly charge may still apply where the service cannot be completed because sufficient access or assembly space has not been provided.

What Happens If Damage Occurs During Assembly?

When you choose our Professional Delivery & Assembly service, the installation is carried out by our specialist assembly team.

If accidental damage occurs to your wardrobe during assembly, the assemblers will report the damage to us so that we can arrange the appropriate replacement part.

We normally aim to order the replacement part within approximately 48 hours of receiving the relevant information from the assembly team.

Please be aware that many of our wardrobe parts are manufactured and supplied from Germany. Replacement components may therefore take a similar lead time to the original order before they arrive with us and can be arranged for fitting.

This is one of the key benefits of selecting professional assembly: if accidental damage occurs during installation by our team, we take responsibility for resolving the issue.

Assembly by the Customer

If your wardrobe is supplied as Delivery Only, it will normally arrive flat-packed with the components and assembly instructions required to build the furniture.

Wardrobe assembly clearance guide showing approximately 20cm working space around the wardrobe

Large wardrobes normally need to be assembled flat before being carefully raised into their final position. We strongly recommend checking all components before beginning assembly and making sure there is sufficient room to work safely around the wardrobe.

  • Check all packs before beginning assembly.
  • Confirm that all required components are present.
  • Check that no components appear damaged before assembly begins.
  • Use at least two people for safe assembly and lifting.
  • Allow approximately 20cm of working clearance around the wardrobe where possible.
  • Ensure there is enough clear floor space to assemble the wardrobe flat.
  • Check the available ceiling height before lifting the wardrobe upright.
Please note: Damage caused during customer self-assembly is not treated in the same way as accidental damage caused while our professional team is carrying out the assembly service.

Delivery Times for Professional Assembly

Orders with Professional Delivery & Assembly are delivered by a specialist assembly team. This can mean the delivery time is slightly longer than the standard delivery estimate shown for delivery-only orders.

Please allow approximately 6–8 weeks for orders requiring Professional Delivery & Assembly.

Assembly Within 40 Miles of BB9

If you are located within approximately 40 miles of our BB9 postcode, we may be able to provide an additional assembly service for selected wardrobes that would otherwise be supplied as Delivery Only.

Availability and pricing for this local service should be confirmed with our team before delivery.
